A group of CLAP-TECH secondary students from the Applied Learning in Tech Basics* have recently concluded an insightful five-day study tour in Beijing, focused on the expansive field of artificial intelligence (AI).
Central to the excursion was an intensive AI bootcamp led by iFLYTEK, a prominent Chinese AI and voice technology company. Here, the students tackled advanced topics such as generative AI and prompt engineering. They also applied their new knowledge practically, programming a miniature intelligent vehicle to navigate autonomously and avoid obstacles.
One of the tour’s notable events was the students’ attendance at the award ceremony for the Soong Ching Ling Award for Children’s Invention 2024. Presented by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, this esteemed national competition encourages young minds to apply their scientific acumen and creativity in devising solutions to real-world challenges. Recognised by the Ministry of Education, it is a national sci-tech competition targeting primary and middle school students.
During the Future Science Day event, which is part of the Soong Ching Ling Award activities, the students showcased their mini-intelligent vehicle projects. They shared the knowledge gained from the bootcamp and explained the scientific principles behind their designs to an engaged audience, showcasing their burgeoning expertise.
The tour was further enhanced by the presence of a group of secondary school students from Beijing who joined the Hong Kong students for the duration of the trip. This collaboration facilitated a valuable educational exchange, enriching the learning experience for all involved.
This educational journey provided the students with a platform to exhibit their skills and learn from some of the best in the field, solidifying their interest in AI and preparing them for a future where technology and innovation drive progress.
