As Secondary Six students gear up for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) examination, they are also contemplating their future paths. With various educational options available, students can choose subjects aligned with their interests and abilities to maximise their potential.
BoBo Koo, a second-year student enrolled in the Higher Diploma in Data Science programme of the Jockey Club Multiple Pathways Initiative – CLAP-TECH Pathway, discovered her passion for information technology after taking the DSE exams. Through the CLAP-TECH Pathway’s career and life development programme, BoBo secured an internship opportunity at The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), one of the initiative’s industry partners. She gained valuable insights working alongside experienced IT professionals at Towngas. Her exceptional performance during the internship led to a part-time job offer from Towngas even before graduation.
Reflecting on the experience, BoBo stated, “The most significant benefit of this course was the opportunity to intern, allowing me to personally experience the work environment and apply the skills learned to real-life situations. Previously, I lacked a clear career goal, but this course deepened my understanding of the data science industry. Currently, my goal is to continue studying while working and explore my future objectives. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to intern at Towngas, as it has provided me with invaluable insights and experience that will shape my future career.”
The two-year Higher Diploma in Data Science programme, offered by the School of Continuing Education at Hong Kong Baptist University, is designed with reference to the needs of the IT industry, focusing on the latest developments in the field, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cybersecurity.
